Indoor Plant Wall: Easy Way to Bring Life to Any Space

Have a blank wall you are looking to add visual interest to? Quickly and easily bring life to your space with the addition of an indoor plant wall. There are many different ways to create this look. I’m going to walk you through how I created this one in my front entryway. The supplies for this project were inexpensive and it was super easy to install.

Choose a Home For Your Plant Wall

The first step is to pick where you would like to hang your indoor plant wall. If you are planning to use real plants like I did, then it is best to choose a space in your home that gets plenty of natural sunlight. You don’t need a lot of space to install this, in fact this project is perfect for small awkward spaces that you are struggling to decorate. If you want to use faux plants this feature can be installed anywhere you’d like.

What You Will Need

  • Metal wall mounted flower pot rings (individual rings or a pot holder system like I used)
  • Flower pots that fit your rings (I used 6 inch terra cotta pots)
  • Drill
  • Plants of your choosing
  • Indoor potting soil (I love Miraclegro Moisture Control Potting Mix)

Install Your Indoor Plant Wall

The holder I used made installation really easy. All of the required hardware was included. You can find the system I used here. If you are using individual rings you will still install the same way I did.

First, hold the pot rings or system up to the wall at the desired height and use a pen to mark the location of the holes. It helps to have someone else hold it up so you can step back and look at it, but I did this step by myself. Next, use a drill to make the holes and push anchors in (you can skip the anchors if you are installing into a stud). The system I used is quite heavy and plants will add a lot of weight. I definitely recommend using anchors to help support it if you can’t install into a stud. Lastly, line the pot holder or rings up with the holes and hang it using the provided screws. You can use a drill or screwdriver for this step.

Finishing Touches

Now that your flower pot rings or holder are installed all that’s left is to hang up your plants. You can use any combination of plants or pots you would like. Just make sure the pots you are using fit the rings you installed. For my indoor plant wall I used 6 inch terra cotta pots and DIY’d them to look old. Check out how I quickly aged these pots here.

I am by no means a plant lady, I’m still working on changing my black thumb green. For a plant to survive me it has to be super easy to care for. For this wall I used (from top to bottom) Golden Pothos, Polka-Dot Plant, and Pancake Plant. All of these plants have done really well here (this space gets plenty of indirect sunlight for reference).

And there you have it! All that’s left is to step back and admire your new plant wall (and water your plants). Let me know in the comments if you try this in your home!

I sure wish I’d seen your website before I finished remodeling my house to build an in-law suite for my mother-in-law! Your ideas are beautiful! I’m sooooo bad at interior decorating! I’ve been trying to decide what to do with a small office/guest bedroom for almost a year! Thanks for sharing!
